Intriguing Covers..!

I always tend to judge a book by its cover , I know that looks can be deceptive but usually they aren't . I always get drawn to books with mysterious , scary , or blood laden covers . It is as if these covers speak to my penchant for mystery , horror and occult practices. Here are some of the covers that I feel are really intriguing and I was immediately attracted by these books or rather their covers..!

Anna Dressed In Blood :
Isn't the girl with her hair flying , looking super scary..

Don't breathe a word :
Those big eyes give a feeling that the girl is staring right at my soul..reading my dirty secrets..

Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children :
looks were deceptive for this book ( review )..but the black and white cover with that mysterious girl levitating did catch my eye..!

Spirit Week :
Just looking at that cover gave me goosebumps ..that girl without the mouth with those tears and totally black eyes ...caught me by surprise..! ( The authors blog

The Road Of The Dead  :
Well those creepy green eyes and those purple bruises juxtaposed with that title will catch anybody's attention..!

The She  :
That hand probably yelling "HELP" with that face peeping is certainly eye catching .

Review : Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children

Author : Ransom Riggs
Pages : 348
Series : Miss Peregrines

Summary :  A mysterious island.

An abandoned orphanage.

A strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography,Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows  ( From Good Reads )

My Take : When i first saw the cover i thought "Wow ! This book is gonna be super creepy and scary " . But unfortunately looks can be deceiving. This book didn't even cover 1% of the scary quotient i was looking for leave alone a nice delightful scare , that makes you scream your lungs out , or lock your door before sleeping , leave the light on , and snuggle under your covers but still be scared of the evil that lurks the streets outside.

The girl on the cover is SUPER SCARY but there is no trace of anything frightful throughout the book.I was really excited to read this book and was terribly disappointed with the story line and the pace . The pictures were really cool but whats up with the guy with 2 mouths or the girl who is levitating , there was not even a word about them in any of the tales told by Miss Peregrine . Did they just disappear ..??  The thing which was even more senseless was that Jacob's parents agreed to send him to a semi deserted island ,when they believed that he was half off his nuts , just because his psychiatrist said so.

Jacob's another strange creature , he kept on acting as if he was the richest person on Earth , just because his parents were rich. He just had one friend Ricky , who also stopped talking to him , the thing that was not clear to me was that why even was Ricky introduced when there was no use of his character altogether. Miss Peregrine's character was bizarre too and Emma was just like a love -stricken fool , she loved Jacob's grandfather and all of a sudden , she fell in love with Jacob . And Jacob didn't even feel gross, he did at first but then even he started LOVING her...I really like Jacob's grandfathers character for the only fact that he was extremely brave and was the only character who was convincing.

There were moments i was laughing at the utter stupidity of the events that occurred...like when Emma and Jacob were SWIMMING OR RATHER KISSING . The book started off with a really good story specially
when Jacob finds about his grandfather's past and it was OK till they reached that god forsaken island. After that it just turned into a LOVE STORY.

The execution of the story was rather poor , and even the pace was not satisfying. I am definitely NOT GOING TO READ ITS SEQUEL , even thought the ending did raise some questions like will Miss Peregrine turn back to her human form again..?? and will they be safe again..??  what happens when Jacob's father finds the letter ..?? But i'm not going to put myself through the torture of reading the sequel at all.

Ending : Raised a lot of questions

Favorite Character : Jacob's Grandfather

Final Verdict :  Didn't like it and definitely didn't live up to my expectations...

Review : Clockwork Prince ( The Infernal Devices Book 2 )

Author : Cassandra Clare
Pages : 496
Series : Infernal Devices

Summary : In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa's powers for his own dark ends.
With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister's war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move and that one of their own has betrayed them.
Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will; the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?
As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

My Take : While reading this book i felt as if  i was in London during Queen Victoria's reign and  i was myself a shadowhunter and had great friends like Jem, Will and Tessa . This book got me so engrossed that i managed to finish it in one sitting.Cassandra Clare has done a wonderful job in the narration and the writing was effective , powerful and beautiful .

In this book Charlotte has been challenged to find the Magister , in 2 weeks or the Institute would be handed over to Benedict. Will and James and Tessa find out that the Magister has some old , serious grudges against the Shadowhunters and that he will do whatever it takes to destroy them. Tessa ,Will and Jem go to a million places to unravel the truth and to learn some forlorn truths about his past. The people  have been betrayed by a house member  who was under a false impression...admist all of this Tessa  just doesn't know who she likes more...Will or Jem...

A word on the characters :I love the characters...I love Tessa , I love Will , I love Jem..! Tessa's spirit and character endeared her to  me. She has a charming and delightful personality , she can be curt to a person and be pretty sweet to the other. Will's clandestine meetings with  Magnus Bane resulted with a rather bitter truth. Will had no imprecations and was made to believe anybody who would love him , would die. I had a doleful look on my face when i first read what had happened . i felt really bad for him when Tessa who he loved more than anybody on this Earth refused to his proposal , but even Tessa had no choice she couldn't hurt Jem's feelings after all she is all he had.  I felt heart broken as i always wanted to see Will and Tessa get together as the kind of chemistry they share is unusual . Jem I knew from the beginning admired Tessa but i had not imagined in the wildest of my dreams that he would propose her. Jem is also a marvel , i love people who are kind to everyone. Jem according to me has a very pleasing and prodigious personality . He in spite of all difficulties appears to be the calmest of all people , but , the thing i loathe about him is that he thinks there is no cure to his disease , i mean at least he should have faith and should hope for the best.

I can't  wait for Clockwork Princess...i mean why can't i have it tomorrow..??? why do i have to wait for 8 months..?? and especially when the ending was sooo spectacular. Cecila Herondale (Will's sister ) has come to the Institute for her training as a Shadowhunter. Won't that get an incredible twist in the tale..?? Also i want to find out whether Tessa and Jem get married..or does Tessa choose Will over Jem... ( i wish she does that ) well clearly i'm on Will's side..! Go team Will..! But unluckily the book won't be out till next year march..so i'll just have to wait..!

Favorite Quote : " The human heart has hidden treasures ,
In secret kept, in silence sealed;
The thoughts ,the hopes , the dreams, the pleasures ,
Whose charms were broken if revealed ."

Ending : Spectacular and thought provoking!

Favorite Character : Will

Final Verdict : I love it..!

Review : Clockwork Angel

Author : Cassandra Clare
Pages : 482
Series : The Infernal Devices

Summary : Magic is dangerous  - but love is more dangerous still...When sixteen-year old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England . the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's downworld , where vampires, warloack, and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets.Only the shadowhunter , warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order admidst the chaos.

Kidnapped  by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called the Pandemonium Club , Tessa soon learns that she is a downworlder with a rare ability : the power to transform, at will , into another person.  whats more , the Magister , the shadowy figure who runs the club will stop stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his owm.

Friendless and hunted , Tessa takes refuge with shadowhunter's of london institute, who swear to find her brother is she will use her power to hepl them .She soon finds herself fascinated by - and torn between -two best friends  : James , whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blur eyed Will, whose caustic wit and voltaile moods keep everyone at his arms length...everyone that is but...Tessa. as their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the shadowhunters , tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her nwe friends save the world...and that love may be the most dangerous magic of them all...

My Take : I loved this book..! It kept me hooked on to it till the very last page.It had a million twists and turns , different characters with rather intriguing personalities and loads of adventure.

The story starts with Tessa who arrives in England , a totally new place for her , all alone , just because her dear brother had called her. She is picked up by the dark sisters on behalf of her brother, and as the name suggests their intentions were rather dark..Tessa was abducted by them and was kept in captivity...for the Magister to marry her.

But thankfully Will arrives at the right moment and rescues her and then what follows is a tale of  deception , betrayal , love and hate.

Each one of the characters is different like the always sweet Jem , or the mysterious Henry , clever and skillful Charlotte and the breathtaking Tessa, she has managed to be hopeful and i respected her for the strength she has shown...but my favorite character is Will as he is witty and sarcastic yet endearing , why he keeps a distance from everyone  is a mystery to me ( which i hope to unravel in the next book ).Jem's story is rather woeful i hope a cure is found to his irremediable disease. I really hope to see Will and Tessa come together ( i really liked their pair...) ...Tessa and Will are quite well read ( another reason i liked them ) and i loved the quotations written at the beginning of every chapter. Nate's betrayal shocked me i had never imagined that he could do that to Tessa and some things weren't really clear to me at the end as the ending was rather mysterious...
Favorite Quote : "Love , hope fear , faith - these make humanity ;These are it's sign and note and character."
Ending : Rather odd , brought up a lot of questions..
Characters : Tessa , Will , Jem , Nate , Magister etc.
Favorite Character : Will , Tessa
