Review : Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children

Author : Ransom Riggs
Pages : 348
Series : Miss Peregrines

Summary :  A mysterious island.

An abandoned orphanage.

A strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography,Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows  ( From Good Reads )

My Take : When i first saw the cover i thought "Wow ! This book is gonna be super creepy and scary " . But unfortunately looks can be deceiving. This book didn't even cover 1% of the scary quotient i was looking for leave alone a nice delightful scare , that makes you scream your lungs out , or lock your door before sleeping , leave the light on , and snuggle under your covers but still be scared of the evil that lurks the streets outside.

The girl on the cover is SUPER SCARY but there is no trace of anything frightful throughout the book.I was really excited to read this book and was terribly disappointed with the story line and the pace . The pictures were really cool but whats up with the guy with 2 mouths or the girl who is levitating , there was not even a word about them in any of the tales told by Miss Peregrine . Did they just disappear ..??  The thing which was even more senseless was that Jacob's parents agreed to send him to a semi deserted island ,when they believed that he was half off his nuts , just because his psychiatrist said so.

Jacob's another strange creature , he kept on acting as if he was the richest person on Earth , just because his parents were rich. He just had one friend Ricky , who also stopped talking to him , the thing that was not clear to me was that why even was Ricky introduced when there was no use of his character altogether. Miss Peregrine's character was bizarre too and Emma was just like a love -stricken fool , she loved Jacob's grandfather and all of a sudden , she fell in love with Jacob . And Jacob didn't even feel gross, he did at first but then even he started LOVING her...I really like Jacob's grandfathers character for the only fact that he was extremely brave and was the only character who was convincing.

There were moments i was laughing at the utter stupidity of the events that occurred...like when Emma and Jacob were SWIMMING OR RATHER KISSING . The book started off with a really good story specially
when Jacob finds about his grandfather's past and it was OK till they reached that god forsaken island. After that it just turned into a LOVE STORY.

The execution of the story was rather poor , and even the pace was not satisfying. I am definitely NOT GOING TO READ ITS SEQUEL , even thought the ending did raise some questions like will Miss Peregrine turn back to her human form again..?? and will they be safe again..??  what happens when Jacob's father finds the letter ..?? But i'm not going to put myself through the torture of reading the sequel at all.

Ending : Raised a lot of questions

Favorite Character : Jacob's Grandfather

Rating

Final Verdict :  Didn't like it and definitely didn't live up to my expectations...
